In the past few years, Donald Trump has made polarizing health statements on Fluoride, vaccinations, and the American Health Care Act of 2010 (Obamacare) which has taken serious attention. He has been at the center of discussion on many occasions regarding these matters and whether these issues could alter general health guidelines. It has ranged from calling into question the purpose of putting fluoride in the water supply to making people paranoid about getting vaccinated, all the way to putting Obamacare into question with his Health Statements.
This blog addresses these important questions and asks what these statements mean for the polity and health care in the US.
In his public life, Donald Trump has made several important Health statements, especially regarding the Health of the citizens, more specifically about the incorporation of fluorides, vaccines, and the Health Care Act provision in the US popularly known as Obama Care. These health statements, especially considering how he is running yet again to be president, have become a very contentious issue for the people and public health authorities.
Just recently, Trump voiced cautious support for Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s proposition, and insisted on completely erasing fluoride from the water supply, basing that on the purported health effects of fluoride; this is despite all existing data on the safety of fluoride. This initiative would be consistent with Kennedy’s perceptions about the compound in question as being associated with multiple health concerns even though the CDC and WHO recommend its use in drinking water for the general populace as a healthy measure.
Vaccines and Trump’s views have changed for the better, because of the influence of Kennedy, who is recognized as a vaccine atrocities propagandist. Trump has suggested that the people in charge of public health agencies will be able to operate with some freedom if he wins a second term. Trump hasn’t been able to explicitly endorse a total blocking of vaccines but his eagerness to embrace Kennedy’s unpopular view about vaccination safety might produce alterations in radical vaccination policies.
For many years, Trump has been a hard critic of the AfC Act, even calling for the final abolition of the Act and its replacement with a cheaper alternative. During his first term in office, his regime sought to repeal the ACA, and he still states that he would seek to further diminish the scope of the program again if he acceded to power.
Health institutions like the CDC and WHO have advocated for fluoride in public health policies for a long time, providing water containing fluoride to fight tooth cavities. However, skepticism is growing, potentially challenging the long-standing public health measures. Bans on fluoride could profoundly impact communities, particularly low-income ones, and deepen health inequalities.
Similar communication styles can also be observed in Trump’s health statements on fluoride and vaccines where he expresses doubts and criticizes accepted norms. His call to stop adding fluoride into potable water supplies, which is necessary to curb many issues within the dental health domain, goes against many decades of evidence regarding its safety. His courting of vaccine skeptics, such as RFK Jr., makes one worry about the future of public health strategies, including the level of enforcement of vaccination programs. These points where he turns away from mainstream health policies leave a worrying trend for the future of public health.
