Healthcare Workplace Violence : Corewell Hospital Shooting

A hospital employee shot a coworker in a suburban Detroit parking garage on Thursday. It triggered a morning scramble at the healthcare campus before authorities arrested the suspect miles away later. Significantly, the gunman never entered Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital. Local police from Oakland and Macomb counties responded to reports of a shooting at Corewell Hospital in Troy on Thursday. At 7:08 a.m., hospital security alerted Troy police about a shooting in the parking garage. Moreover, they reported that the shooter had fired a handgun five times, hitting a victim’s arm and his car.

Troy police Chief Josh Jones stated:

“We’re lucky it wasn’t an actual active shooter. It was a targeted incident.”

He further highlighted that the suspect fled the area immediately after the shooting. Authorities later arrested him at a home in Macomb Township.

The 25-year-old victim injured in the Corewell Hospital shooting is currently in stable condition. Police arrested the suspect around 9:30 a.m. In addition, multiple law enforcement agencies, including sheriff’s offices, local departments, and the ATF, collaborated to capture him.

With the suspect in custody and the victim recovering, authorities have completed the immediate investigation. Officials are now expanding the probe to determine what led to the Troy hospital shooting. Significantly, they have not yet disclosed any details about the motive.
